The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is a tool developed by the European Commission, based on the regulation (EC) No. 1221/2009, that can be used voluntarily by companies and other organisations in order to evaluate, report, and improve their environmental performance. EMAS can be implemented through an Environmental Management System (EMS) and it is usually combined with the ISO 14001 standard. The main goal of EMAS is to help companies and organisations to reduce the environmental impacts, strengthen legal compliance and employee involvement, and save resources and money.
